Traditional deacidification method generally refers to the three methods used for deacidification methods of industrial production, including chemical deacidification, physical refining (or deacidification) and mixed oil refining (or deacidification).
Chemical deacidification known as alkaline deacidification, is the industry's most widely used method, is usually adding lye to the degummed oil to make lye and free fatty acid (FFA) reaction, FFA precipitation in the form of soap, some impurities are also adsorbed by soap, soap feet is separated and removed by centrifugation. Chemical deacidification, usually uses caustic (sodium hydroxide). Neutral oil hydrolysis occurs under action of an alkali, a large number of fat loss; In addition, the neutral oil is also entrained soapstock resulting in loss of neutral oil. Soap generate required sulfuric acid treatment, resulting in a large number of waste water to cause environmental pollution, oil consumption depends on FFA content of crude oil, FFA content is higher, the greater consumption of oil. This method of deacidification is more thorough, stable oil quality.
Physical deacidification is a method steam passes into the oil so that the steam carries and remove FFA, unsaponifiables, and odor substances under high vacuum conditions.
Compared with chemical deacidification, the method is no soap produced, therefore low oil consumption, high FFA quality, and easy to operate, require steam, less water and power, requiring low investment, some of the heat-sensitive pigments (carotenoids) and odor material are also removed by the steam stripping. Compared with the alkaline deacidification, physical deacidification with a high yield, no soap production, and reduce the amount of spills, reduce environmental pollution, etc; but there are very strict with pretreatment of crude oil, not suitable for heat-sensitive cottonseed oil, and the disadvantage of polymers and trans fatty acids produced at high temperature.
