A keycap is a small silicone rubber plastic metal cover placed over the button/key switch of a keypad/keyboard/computer keyboard.

ABS(Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene ): This abs is widely used for keyboard and button keys. It is a comparatively soft material compared to some modern plastics but is tough and resistant to breakage.

PBT(Polybutylene terephthalate ): This pbt is a harder long-wearing material with a "sandier" feel and should not yellow as much as ABS over time. The downside is the brittle nature of PBT and expense cost.

POM(Polyoxymethylene ): Also known as acetal, polyacetal, and polyformaldehyde, it is an abrasion-resistant, solvent-resistant and low-friction material. However, it is expensive and not common.

PC(Polycarbonates ): Tough clear plastic. Used for translucent keys

If just manufacturer individual/single keycap, compression molding is enough.
If need to make one part with two different materials, such as silicone rubber and plastic part. Because plastic parts are not resistant to high temperature, and will melt if they are put in a mold together with silicone rubber products. At this situation, we will apply liquid silicone injection molding which is working in low temperature range, will not destroy the plastic parts. This process is called over-molding.
Generally, over-molding is more expensive than common compression molding, so another way of assembling plastic keycaps with silicone rubber keypad is useful - glue.
