Benefits of UV sterilisation
No microbe can withstand UV rays even those pathogens that cannot be killed by chlorination
No longer risk exposure to harmful pool chemicals which can be 5 times worse than passive smoking
No undue composite building structure corrosion as caused by chloramine
No unpleasant chloramine smell you get from residual chlorine
No eye and skin irritation as caused by chlorine
How Does UV Sterilisation Work?/How Ultraviolet Pool Sanitizers Work
Swimming pools require constant disinfection in order for viruses, cysts, bacteria, and algae to be destroyed so that one's family is protected from unwanted matters. The traditional disinfectant for many decades has been chlorine, but in recent years, after several years of research, experts have found out that the things that can arise from using chlorine in the water can lead to health matters. Thankfully, technology has advanced in great measure even in this area. There are now UV pool sanitizers, which can disinfect swimming pools without leading to health concerns.

UV pool sanitizers are very effective natural disinfectants that eliminate almost all known microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores, permanently destroying their DNA. Ultraviolet light has become, in a short period of time, the preferred technology for disinfecting water in large urban spas and Olympic pools.

Ultraviolet light not only destroys chloramines (unpleasant byproducts of chlorine treatment) but also in itself is a very effective disinfectant that can eliminate the use of chlorine. There is virtually no microorganism that is immune to UV light, even the chlorine resistant pathogens can be eliminated with UV pool sanitizers. Another important advantage of ultraviolet light is significantly reducing the need to add and recirculate water to clean the filter. This allows people to save hundreds of dollars every month.
Are UV Sanitizers Safe?
Ultraviolet sanitizers are very safe. The ultraviolet lamps are housed in a rugged high-impact polymer housing. UV cannot leave or escape the sterilization chamber, so UV never enters the swimming pool. UV is a physical process rather than a chemical process, making UV the most environmentally friendly choice in pool sanitation. There is no residual effect that is harmful to humans, animals, aquatic life, plant life or the environment. UV also minimizes the need to generate, handle, transport, or store dangerous chemicals.

ULTRAVIOLET WATER PURIFICATION APPLICATIONS

Farms and Ranches: Bacteria free animal drinking water increases production by eliminating losses due to water-borne infection. Improved sanitation promotes healthier stock and higher yields

Water Wells: Eliminates bacteria which may build up from time to time from seepage of surface water or sewage

Bottling Manufacture: Insures bacteria free water for use in product at breweries, wineries, soft drink and water bottling facilities

Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Industries: Bacteria free water insures compliance with strict water treatment standards necessary for product quality control

Laboratories: Provides ultra-pure water required for accurate testing and research

Hospitals: Insures ultra-pure water for pathology labs, kidney dialysis and post disinfection rinses where bacteria free water is essential

Electronics Industry: Insures bacteria free water for use in conjunction with de-ionized and high purity water systems

Food Industries: Insures bacteria free water as an additive to product and also as a rinse before packaging to guard against water-borne bacteria spoilage in vegetables, fruits, meats, fish and other products

Private Homes, Trailer Parks, Recreation Vehicles, Schools, Hotels, Airplanes: Provide safe, germ-free drinking water. Destroying bacteria, a serious problem for rural water supplies and stored water usage, prevents disease

Aquariums and Hatcheries: Bacteria free water prevents disease organisms from growing or spreading without producing by-products toxic to marine life

Wastewater Treatment Plants: Affords an excellent post water treatment of secondary effluent to reduce bacterial
concentrations to safe levels without introducing a toxicant to fish and other marine life in the receiving waters

Nurseries: Bacteria free water minimizes losses from widespread root rot infection, a common problem in trees and plants caused by a diseased water supply

Swimming Pools: Helps control bacteria, algae and slime formation. Ultraviolet water purification allows the user to substantially reduce the chlorine usage
FAQ:
Is UV 100% effective?

UV disinfection typically offers a 99.99% reduction in both bacteria and virus and is more effective than chemical disinfection processes at destroying viruses.

Does UV remove E. coli?

Yes, E. coli requires a UV dose of between 6 to 12 mJ/cm2 to achieve 4-log disinfection. This is well within the capabilities of the Sterilight UV system.

How much does it cost to operate? UV systems are extremely economical to operate.

A typical household UV system operates on the same power requirements as a 40 watt light bulb!

Will UV change the taste or smell of my water?

UV is a physical disinfection process, no additives are required. It does not change the taste or odour of the water. It simply provides safe reliable disinfection.

How do I know the system is working?

All UV systems come with "lamp-out" monitors which give an audible and visual signal in case of lamp failure. Sterilight GOLD systems incorporate true UV intensity monitors so an alarm will sound if the disinfection effectiveness falls below a safe level.

Why do I need Disinfection?

Disinfection is required on all water supplies that are not protected by a municipal water source. Due to the uncertainties that exist within some water systems, we can no longer rely on the fact that our water supplies "may be safe." By providing your own disinfection, you are taking the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the water supply for you and your family.
