Main uses of boron minerals:
1. Building Material Industry
Glass industry is the largest user of borax. Adding a certain amount of Borax in glass production can enhance the thermal stability of glass, increase the transmittance of ultraviolet rays, and improve the transparency and impact resistance of glass. In recent years, boric acid has also been widely used in the manufacture of glass fiber, which is not only an important raw material for the production of FRP, but also a new material for construction, machinery and naphthalene industry.
Borax can be used as catalyst in ceramic industry. Borax is also an additive in the production of preservatives, high temperature crucibles and paints.
2. Light Industry
Borax is an important raw material for the production of enamel products. It can enhance the firmness and gloss of enamel products, improve the heat resistance of enamel glaze, and greatly increase its expansion coefficient.
In the printing and dyeing industry, borax is a commonly used cooking agent, used to remove oil, wax and pigments contained in natural cotton fibers, and has bleaching effect on the original cloth, which is conducive to dyeing.
Boride is a new type of paper coating in paper industry. It can increase the gloss and fire resistance of paper and be used as a treatment agent for mercury-containing wastewater in paper industry.
Some compounds of boron can also be used as fire retardants, fire retardants, paint dryers, anti-rust paints, etc.
3. metallurgical Industry
Special steel such as boron steel can be made by adding boride in metallurgical industry. This kind of steel has high strength, corrosion resistance and heat resistance. It is a high quality steel for making main components such as jet engines.
The mechanical properties of these metals can be improved by adding a little boron to the metals such as aluminium, molybdenum and nickel. Boron is also an antioxidant for casting magnesium and its alloys. Iron, boron and silicon amorphous metals are a kind of high-tech materials. They can be used as transformer cores instead of silicon steel sheets and save 3/4 of electricity.
4. Machinery Industry
Boron is used in grinding, grinding, drilling and polishing of cemented carbide, gemstone and other hard materials in the mechanical industry.
Boronizing is a new technology in mechanical processing industry. It can improve the surface hardness, wear resistance and oxidation resistance of parts.
5. Chemical Industry
Borax and boric acid can be used as additives for daily chemical products such as soaps and detergents. Boron-containing detergents have the properties of hair protection, strong decontamination and pollution-free. Some borides can also be made into good reductants, catalysts, bromides, etc.
6. Electronic Industry
In boron series compounds, some borides are insulating materials, while some borides are good conductive materials with semiconductor characteristics and electronic radiation properties. They can be used to manufacture various electronic components and devices, as ignition poles of ignition tubes, telecommunications equipment, capacitors, semiconductor admixtures, insulators of high voltage and high frequency electric and plasma arc, and radar transmission. Windows, etc.
7. Atomic Energy Industry and National Defense Industry
Boron can be used as control rod in atomic reactor and structural material of atomic reactor.
Boron carbide has high melting point, high compressive strength, radiation protection and chemical corrosion resistance, so it is an ideal protective material for aviation and armor. Some compounds of boron are used to make rocket nozzles, combustion chamber components and jet engines. Boron hydride is a common burning agent in liquid rocket propellant.
8. agriculture
Boron is used in agriculture to produce boron fertilizers and pesticides.
Relative atomic mass10.811StorageSealedProperties:Black or dark brown powder. It is a weak conductor at room temperature and good conductor at high temperature. The conductivity can be improved by the addition of trace carbon. The formation of boron trioxide film plays a self-limiting role in air oxidation, and the oxide layer evaporates only when the temperature is above 1000 C. It can react with fluorine at room temperature. It is not affected by hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid aqueous solution. It reacts violently with molten sodium peroxide or a mixture of sodium carbonate and potassium nitrate. Powders are soluble in boiling nitric acid and sulphuric acid, as well as most molten metals such as copper, iron, manganese, aluminium and calcium. It is insoluble in water. The relative density was 2.350. The melting point is about 2300 C. Boiling point 3658 C.Atomic Volume(Cubic centimeter/mole) 4.6Atomic Volume: (Cubic centimeter/mole)4.6Crustal content: (ppm)950
