Placid magnetic particle brakes provide smooth, repeatable torque control. Torque control is independent of speed while the torque to current ratio is nearly linear and can be very accurately controlled. These self-contained brakes are ideal for tension control, load simulation, and soft starts and stops. Some sizes are available with fan or pneumatic cooling.
Magnetic particle clutch/brake is a type of auto-control component with high-performance which uses driving and driven units as main body, powder (magnetic powder) with high magnetic conductivity as working medium and exciting current as control means so as to achieve control transfer/braking torque and to keep the linear relationship between input current and output torque.Feature ofPB40 series Magnetic Particle Brakes---up to 400 NmWith no electrical excitation, the shaft freely rotates.With electrical excitation, the shaft becomes coupled to the case.While the load torque is less than the output torque, the shaft won't rotate.When the load torque is increased, the brake will slip smoothly at the torque level set by the coil input current.
How PB40 series Magnetic Particle Brakes---up to 400 NmWorks
1. Engagement:Magnetic particles (very similar to iron filings) are located in the powder cavity. Without any voltage/current, they sit in the cavity; however, when voltage/current is applied to the coil, the magnetic flux that is created, tries to bind the particles together, almost like a magnetic particle slush. As the voltage/current is increased, the binding of the particles becomes stronger. The brake rotor passes through these bound particles. The output of the housing is rigidly attached to some portion of the machine. As the particles start to bind together, a resistant force is created on the rotor, slowing, and eventually stopping the output shaft.
2. Disengagement:When current voltage is removed from the brake, the input is free to turn with the shaft. Since magnetic particle powder is in the cavity, all magnetic particle units have some type of minimum drag associated with them.
3. Cycling:Cycling is achieved by turning the voltage/current to the coil on and off.
